Before understanding the cause and classification of acne scars and acne marks, let’s learn the composition of the skin first.
The skin is composed of epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue. The epidermis and dermis are connected by a basement membrane band, and there are abundant blood vessels, lymphatics, nerves, muscles, and various skin appendages.
The causes of the acne scars
Acne scars are a repair response of the body to tissue damage. When the skin damages deep into the dermis or a large area of epidermal defect, the epidermis in this part cannot be regenerated and will be replaced by dermal fibrocytes, collagen, and proliferated blood vessels, so acne scars appear.
Acne scars are formed by infection, inflammation, or external pressure, usually because the acne is not properly treated in time. The inflammation reaction of skin cells causes damage to the skin tissues and caused scars.
There are many types of acne, so there are many forms of acne scars. The more severe the inflammatory reaction during acne attacks, the more severe the damage to the skin tissue; the deeper the inflamed part, the deeper the damage to the skin tissue, and the more severe the acne scars that may be left in the skin.
The causes of the acne marks
When the onset of vasodilation induced acne, acne eliminates down after the blood vessel and does not immediately shrink go on to form several flat red erythemas, and inflammation of skin cells caused damage to the skin tissue, pigmentation after inflammation. It will leave a dark color in the area longer than the red acne, thus forming an acne mark.
When acne and acne marks continue to increase, various cells release a variety of cytokines, resulting in abnormal arrangements of skin collagen and matrix. Coupled with the influence of microcirculation and free radicals, lymphatic drainage decreases and local edema, which forms acne scars.
